Informative Speech On Sleep - 1328 Words
Title of Speech: The Importance of Sleep and the Effects It Can Have on Our Bodies Specific Purpose: My audience will understand the importance of sleep, the effects a lack of sleep can have on a personââ¬â¢s body, and ways to improve the quality of sleep. Thesis: Sleep plays an essential part in a personââ¬â¢s health and well-being; the way we feel while awake is dependent upon what happens to your body while asleep. Attention Getter: Are you in debt? I know what probably came to your mind: loans, credit card bills, and other monetary forms of debt. What I am talking about today is sleep debt. If you did not get 7-9 hours of sleep, the recommended amount by the National Sleep Foundation, you are in a sleep debt and owe your body some rest. But,â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦B.) Decision-making, problem solving skills, behaviors, and emotions are just a few examples of what the brain helps to process. C.) A lack of sleep can affect the way a person makes decisions, how they act, and their problem-solving skills. You, or those around you, may notice you take longer to complete tasks when tired. You may notice yourself making more risky decisions when suffering from lack of sleep. D.) Sleep deficiency has been linked to increased risk for depression, suicide, and risk-taking behavior (What Are Sleep Deprivation and Deficiency? 2017). E.) Sleep is important for your physical self as well; sleep deficiency can place a person at risk for obesity. Obesity can additionally place a person at risk for other illnesses such as heart disease, hypertension, diabetes, and stroke. F.) Those comorbidities I just mentioned are all also risks of lack of sleep. As you have just learned, these illnesses can all be tied together and linked from insufficient sleep. II.) Who is At Risk and What Are the Signs of Sleep Deficiency? A.) Although lack of sleep can affect people of all ages, races, and ethnicities there are certain people who may be at an increased risk to experience lack of sleep (What Are Sleep Deprivation and Deficiency, 2017).
